Trelease Prairie

A 8 ha (19.9 acres) reconstructed tallgrass prairie. Reconstruction began in the 1940's (oldest in State) and is currently maintained by periodic spring and fall prescribed fire. The prairie was divided into quadrants in 1996 with two quadrants being burned under a fall burning regime and two quadrants under a spring burning regime. Vehicle access around the perimeter. Fenced. Agricultural land abuts the south and east sides with Trelease Woods on the north and Phillips Tract across the road to the west. Acquired in 1942.

Location: The west 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of section 1, Urbana township, Champaign Co. The 911 address is 1710 N. Cottonwood Rd. About 3 miles NE of Urbana. On the east side of Cottonwood Rd. across from the Phillips Tract site.
